Until you know where you’ve been, it’s hard to see how you got here or predict what the alternatives could be. While philosophy has a keen focus on current problems and challenges facing society and individual lives, it also has a very keen interest in its own history. When you engage in the history of western thought, you’ll be able to see how our current frameworks of understanding have been shaped by the past currents in the history of thought. You’ll then be empowered to explore and propose new opportunities to move forward in a better-informed way.
Study history of philosophy as part of a philosophy double-degree and you can add tremendous value to a vocational area of your choosing, such as law, education, business, theology or health science. Pair the discipline with your humanities studies, such as in a Bachelor of Arts, and you’ll have a good foundation for understanding developments in many areas of the Western intellectual tradition. You’ll also become proficient in a range of in-demand skills, including critical thinking, reflection on past historical events and ideas, and problem-solving.
We're available 9am–5pm AEDT,
